The following night, Maya found herself back in the darkened corridors of Bliss High, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and determination. Leo was waiting for her outside the old science lab, a serious expression on his face.
“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” he asked quietly.
Maya nodded. “We need to know the truth.”
Leo pushed open the door, and they stepped inside. The lab was just as eerie as before, but this time, Leo seemed to know exactly where to go. He led Maya to a hidden panel in the wall and pried it open, revealing a narrow passageway.
“This leads to the school’s old archives,” he explained. “They hid the most sensitive documents down here.”
They crawled through the passage, emerging into a small, dimly lit room filled with dusty boxes and files. Leo began sifting through them, pulling out documents and handing them to Maya.
“These are the files we need,” he said. “They detail everything about Project Bliss, from its inception to the most recent experiments.”
Maya’s hands shook as she read through the documents. The files confirmed everything Leo had told her and more. The experiments were even more horrific than she had imagined, with students subjected to dangerous procedures and mind-altering drugs. Some had developed extraordinary abilities, but many had suffered irreversible damage.
“We have to get these out of here,” Maya said, her voice trembling. “People need to know what’s been happening.”
Leo nodded. “But we have to be careful. If they find out what we’re doing, they’ll try to stop us.”
They quickly gathered as many files as they could carry and made their way back through the passage. As they emerged into the main part of the school, they heard footsteps approaching. Maya’s heart raced as she realized they were about to be caught.
“Hide!” Leo whispered urgently, pulling her behind a stack of old equipment.
They held their breath as a figure entered the room. It was a security guard, patrolling the area. He looked around suspiciously but didn’t seem to notice them. After a few tense moments, he left, and Maya let out a sigh of relief.
“That was close,” she whispered.
“We can’t take any more chances,” Leo said. “We need to get these files to someone who can help us expose this.”
They made their way out of the school and to a nearby internet cafe, where they scanned the documents and sent them to a trusted journalist Leo knew. It was risky, but they had no other choice.
As they waited for a response, Maya felt a mix of fear and hope. They were taking a huge risk, but it was the only way to stop the horrors of Project Bliss. Hours later, they received a reply. The journalist was shocked by what they had uncovered and promised to investigate further.
“We did it,” Maya said, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.
“This is just the beginning,” Leo replied. “There are still so many questions to answer and people to help. But at least now, the truth is out there.”
