Episode 1: “The New Girl”
Maya stood nervously at the entrance of Bliss High, clutching her backpack. The grand facade of the prestigious school loomed over her, its stone walls whispering of history and secrets. She took a deep breath and stepped inside, the soft hum of activity in the hallway suddenly dropping to a hush. All eyes turned to her, the new girl, and she could feel the weight of their stares.
Determined not to let the attention faze her, Maya squared her shoulders and made her way to the principal’s office. As she walked, she caught snippets of hushed conversations and curious glances. “That’s the new girl,” she heard someone whisper. “Do you think she knows?”
Knows what? Maya wondered but pushed the thought aside. She had bigger things to worry about, like finding her classes and making it through the day without embarrassing herself.
In the principal’s office, Mrs. Lawson greeted her warmly and handed her a schedule. “Welcome to Bliss High, Maya. If you need anything, my door is always open.”
“Thank you,” Maya replied, glancing down at the paper in her hands. Her first class was history, room 204. She quickly made her way there, trying to ignore the feeling that she was being watched.
The rest of the day passed in a blur of introductions and new faces. Maya was exhausted by the time the final bell rang. She made her way to her locker, only to find a note slipped through the slats. Frowning, she unfolded it and read: “Meet me at the old science lab after school. Trust me.”
Curiosity piqued, Maya decided to follow the mysterious message. She had heard about the old science lab, an abandoned part of the school that no one used anymore. It was supposed to be haunted, or so the rumors went.
As the halls emptied out, Maya found her way to the basement. The air grew colder, and the lighting dimmer, the further she went. Finally, she stood before a heavy wooden door, its paint peeling and the handle rusty. Taking a deep breath, she pushed it open.
Inside, the room was dark and dusty. Broken equipment lay scattered around, and the air smelled of mold and decay. Maya was about to turn back when she heard it: a faint noise, like whispering, coming from the far corner.
Her heart pounding, Maya moved closer. The whispering grew louder, more distinct. She reached the corner and gasped. There, etched into the wall, were the words: “Help me.”
Suddenly, the door slammed shut behind her, plunging the room into darkness. Maya’s breath caught in her throat as she spun around, desperately trying to see who or what had closed the door.
The whispering grew louder, almost deafening now, and Maya felt a chill run down her spine. She stumbled backward, her hand brushing against something cold and metallic. She turned and saw it: an old, locked cabinet with a padlock hanging loosely.
Her curiosity overrode her fear as she fumbled for her phone, using its light to examine the lock. It wasn’t secure. With a quick tug, it snapped open. Inside the cabinet, she found a stack of old files, yellowed with age.
Maya’s eyes widened as she read the labels: “Student Experiments,” “Project Bliss,” “Top Secret.” Her mind raced with questions, but before she could delve deeper, she heard footsteps approaching. Panic surged through her as she grabbed a handful of files and shoved them into her backpack.
The door creaked open, and Maya held her breath. A figure stood silhouetted in the doorway, but before she could make out who it was, the light flickered and went out completely, leaving her in total darkness.
